President Zardari calls for closer Pak-China cooperation in key areas of growth during his recent visit to China.

President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized Pakistan’s dedication to strengthening its strategic and economic relationship with China, highlighting areas such as technology, industry, space, and agriculture as key areas for cooperation. In an interview with China Central Television (CCTV) during his recent visit to China, Zardari underscored Pakistan’s geographical proximity and longstanding partnership with China, which provide opportunities to leverage Chinese expertise for the country’s economic development.

Zardari reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast support for China and expressed gratitude for China’s friendship, especially during challenging times. He praised China’s achievements in science and technology, considering them a positive influence on the global economy. He noted Pakistan’s desire to adopt Chinese advancements to improve agricultural productivity, water management, and climate resilience, citing the significant gap between Pakistan’s crop yields per acre compared to China’s and calling for deeper cooperation in agriculture.

On the topic of space technology, Zardari expressed Pakistan’s goal to expand its capabilities through Chinese collaborations, which he viewed as a beneficial step for Pakistan’s technological growth. He also commended the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects, which have contributed to enhanced infrastructure and connectivity, playing a transformative role in Pakistan’s economic development.

During his discussions with Chinese leaders, Zardari spoke about industrial cooperation, detailing plans for creating specialized industrial parks for Chinese companies that would provide employment opportunities for Pakistani workers while allowing Chinese executives to manage operations remotely. He referred to China as Pakistan’s “all-weather friend” and stressed the importance of utilizing Chinese technology for future generations. Zardari also lauded President Xi Jinping’s leadership, recognizing him as a “strong and steadfast leader” who has elevated China’s economic status. He dismissed global concerns about China’s rapid growth, expressing that Pakistan welcomes China’s rise and values its non-interference policy in global matters.

Zardari also expressed confidence in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) under China’s leadership, anticipating its expanded role in shaping global economic and security frameworks. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s historical relationship with China, emphasizing centuries of trade, cultural exchange, and mutual trust between the two nations.

The president’s visit highlights Pakistan’s long-term commitment to advancing economic cooperation with China, especially in technology, industrial development, and agricultural modernization, as the two countries continue to deepen their strategic economic ties.
