President Xi underscores education’s role in sci-tech development and the role it can play for China’s modernization.
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday underscored the crucial role of education in driving scientific and technological progress, as well as talent cultivation.
As the general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, Xi highlighted the need for a deep understanding of how education, science, and talent contribute to China’s modernization.
He emphasized the goal of consistently fostering talent, maximizing their potential, and ensuring their capabilities are effectively utilized. Xi made these remarks during a joint group meeting at the third session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China’s top political advisory body.
The meeting brought together national political advisors from the China Democratic League, the China Association for Promoting Democracy, and representatives from the education sector.
Xi called for maintaining the correct direction in education management as China aims to become a global leader in education, science, and talent development.
He stressed the importance of nurturing a new generation equipped with moral values, intellectual strength, physical health, aesthetic appreciation, and practical skills to contribute to the socialist cause.
Xi also emphasized integrating the Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era into students’ education.
To build a high-quality education system that meets societal expectations, Xi highlighted the need for comprehensive education reforms.
He pointed out that refining school management structures, granting greater autonomy to schools in decision-making, and advancing law-based governance in education are essential steps forward.
For China to achieve independent technological innovation and self-sufficient talent cultivation, education must serve as a guiding and fundamental force, Xi stated.
He stressed the importance of aligning talent development with economic and social needs to improve the overall quality and efficiency of self-reliant talent training.
Recognizing that education, science, and talent development require a collective effort from the entire Party and society, Xi urged the CPPCC to maximize its consultative role in supporting these national priorities.
