President, PM confer Field Marshal baton upon Asim Munir during a special ceremony held in Islamabad
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif jointly awarded the title and baton of Field Marshal to Chief of Army Staff Syed Asim Munir during a special ceremony held in Islamabad.
The ceremony was attended by members of the federal cabinet, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, chief ministers, governors, military leaders, diplomats, and civil and military officials.
The government promoted General Syed Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal to honor his contributions in defending the nation and leading decisive Bunyanum Marsoos and Marka-e-Haq with exceptional courage and strategic acumen.
President Zardari, in his speech, reiterated that Pakistan desires peaceful coexistence but warned that its pursuit of peace should not be mistaken for weakness.
He expressed national pride in the armed forces for defending Pakistan’s sovereignty against Indian aggression, emphasizing the nation’s united stance during such challenges.
President Zardari stressed that Pakistan will not tolerate any hostile actions, asserting that the nation is ready to defend every inch of its territory across all terrains – air, land, and sea.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, addressing the event, said Pakistan’s firm response to Indian aggression stands as a historic achievement in military, diplomatic, and moral terms.
He praised Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s fearless leadership during Marka-e-Haq, highlighting his wisdom and determination in leading the armed forces to success.
The Prime Minister further stated that under Munir’s command, Operation Bunyanum Marsoos foiled the enemy’s plots and set new standards in modern warfare, inspiring future generations.
He remarked that Pakistan’s military victory under Syed Asim Munir was a blow to an overconfident enemy entangled in its own pride.
Shehbaz Sharif also acknowledged the strong coordination between political and military leadership, which effectively addressed both economic challenges and the threat of externally driven terrorism.
He concluded with a prayer for continued unity and determination as Pakistan advances on its path toward peace and progress.
