Chinese Premier Li Qiang stated on Wednesday that China and Egypt, as key members of the Global South, should enhance strategic coordination to protect their shared interests.
He made these remarks upon arriving in Cairo for an official visit, at the invitation of Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Kamal Madbouly.
Li noted that both China and Egypt are ancient civilizations, and since establishing diplomatic relations nearly 70 years ago, they have remained steadfast friends and strategic partners with a shared vision for the future.
In recent years, under the leadership of Presidents Xi Jinping and Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, bilateral ties have strengthened significantly, with deeper political trust, expanded cooperation, and increasingly effective coordination in multilateral platforms.
Li emphasized that the China-Egypt relationship exemplifies unity, mutual benefit, and cooperation among major developing nations.
He recalled that the two heads of state met twice last year, reaching a consensus to jointly advance a China-Egypt community with a shared future in the new era, opening fresh avenues for cooperation.
In light of rapid global changes and emerging challenges, Li stressed that both countries should continue to work together to promote peace, stability, and development across the Global South.
He expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with Egypt in deepening cooperation across all sectors, enriching the strategic partnership, and contributing to regional and global stability.
Premier Li was received at the airport by the Egyptian prime minister and senior officials, who held a welcome ceremony in his honor. His arrival in Egypt followed his participation in the 17th BRICS Summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
