Power supply to Makran from Iran restored after 24 hours as the Iranian distribution system faced issues.
The electricity supply to Gwadar, Turbat, and Panjgur in Makran was resumed on Sunday after being down for 24 hours due to a blackout.
The power outage was caused by the suspension of electricity supply from Iran via two 132kV transmission lines, leading to a complete blackout in the region.
Pakistan relies on long-term agreements with Iran to import electricity for the coastal region, which remains unconnected to the national grid because of its scattered population and the commercial challenges it presents.
According to a Qesco spokesperson, the blackout affected several grid stations, including Mand, Tump, Turbat, Hoshab, Panjgur, Jiwani, Gwadar Door, Gwadar Deep Sea Port, New Gwadar International Airport, Pasni, and Ormara.
The spokesperson added that Iranian officials were contacted, and they reported that efforts were being made to repair the fault that disrupted the power supply.
The Qesco representative confirmed that power was restored on Sunday after the issue in the Iranian distribution system was resolved.
