PM Shehbaz Sharif welcomed with guard of honor in Tashkent as Uzbek President received him personally at the venue.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received a ceremonial guard of honor upon his arrival at the Tashkent Congress Centre in Uzbekistan’s capital on Wednesday.
Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev personally welcomed him at the venue, where the national anthems of both Pakistan and Uzbekistan were played.
The two leaders are scheduled for a bilateral meeting to discuss strengthening ties in regional connectivity, trade, investment, energy, defense, security, regional stability, and education.
According to a statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Office, they will also exchange views on regional and global matters of mutual interest.
Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Uzbekistan on Tuesday as part of an economic diplomacy initiative aimed at expanding trade, energy, and defense cooperation with landlocked Central Asian nations.
Accompanying him on the trip are Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Investment and Privatization Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.
Upon his arrival at Tashkent International Airport, he was warmly received by Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov, Tashkent Mayor Shavkat Umurzakov, Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Alisher Takhthaev, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Uzbekistan Ahmed Farooq, along with senior diplomatic and government officials.
His visit to Tashkent follows a two-day trip to Baku, where Pakistan and Azerbaijan signed multiple agreements to strengthen collaboration in trade, energy, tourism, and education.
Pakistan aims to utilize its strategic location as a trade and transit hub to connect Central Asian republics with global markets. Since last year, economic engagements, investment discussions, and high-level visits between Pakistan and Central Asian states have significantly increased.
