Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is currently leading the 23rd summit of the Council of the Heads of Government (CHG) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad.
As the current chair of the CHG, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is presiding over the summit.
In his opening remarks, PM Shehbaz expressed his pleasure in welcoming the distinguished guests to Islamabad, describing it as the green and beautiful capital of Pakistan.
He emphasized that the SCO represents the collective voice and aspirations of over 40 percent of the global population, rooted in the Shanghai spirit.
He added that the attendees’ presence highlights their shared commitment to meeting the aspirations of their people, ensuring collective security, and fostering mutually beneficial cooperation for sustainable development and prosperity in the SCO region.
The prime minister described the summit as further evidence of the strength of ties and collaboration among diverse nations.
He also noted that together, they have the potential to drive socio-economic progress, enhance regional peace and stability, and improve citizens’ quality of life.
PM Shehbaz urged leaders to utilize the SCO meeting to exchange ideas, share best practices, and create concrete action plans that will benefit their economies and societies. He then expressed hope for the wonderful outcomes that would arise from their in-depth discussions.
Further, continuing with the summit’s agenda, the prime minister proposed that the day’s agenda be adopted. PM Shehbaz highlighted that they are at a pivotal moment of transition, with significant transformations reshaping the global social, political, economic, and security landscape.
Additionally, describing the SCO platform as a “beacon of multilateralism,” he asserted his strong belief in their collective ability to create a future that is more prosperous, stable, and secure for their people—one that is inclusive and reflects the shared aspirations of all member states.
