PM Sharif highlights maritime sector reforms for growth while emphasizing while attending a high level meeting.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that the country is taking significant steps to enhance the maritime sector in order to foster national economic growth and increase exports.
He noted that Pakistan is endowed with an extensive coastline and abundant maritime resources. With the right reforms in place, these resources can unlock tremendous economic potential and bring the country’s ports up to global competitive standards, the prime minister said while leading a high-level meeting on Monday.
Sharif mentioned that comprehensive measures are being implemented to improve the country’s port infrastructure, optimize customs operations, and strengthen the maritime economy for long-term national growth.
Additionally, he revealed that efforts are underway to standardize regulations and establish a national dredging plan to support ports nationwide. Additionally, the modernization of the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation and the involvement of the private sector through public-private partnerships are key areas of focus to advance the maritime sector.
The prime minister also underscored the importance of speeding up the installation of modern scanning systems at all ports and simplifying customs clearance procedures, particularly in red and yellow channels.
“Maritime resources are critical to global trade and Pakistan’s economic future… prompt action is necessary to maintain competitiveness in an ever-changing international market,” he further concluded.
