PM orders rail link to Reko Diq by 2028 for enhanced connectivity while chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has instructed that Reko Diq be connected to Pakistan’s railway network by 2028 to support future transport and freight needs.

These directives were given during a high-level meeting in Islamabad focused on the development of Pakistan Railways and its planned extension to Reko Diq.

He ordered the formation of an inter-ministerial committee to manage financial matters related to the railway’s development and expansion.

The committee will be responsible for presenting actionable financing proposals for upgrading Pakistan Railways and linking it to Reko Diq.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Pakistan Railways is vital to the country’s economy and communication infrastructure.

He highlighted that the railway is a cost-effective, fast, and eco-friendly mode of transportation.

Shehbaz Sharif noted that linking Reko Diq with the rail network will support the growth of Balochistan’s mining sector and generate new job opportunities in the region.

Officials also briefed the Prime Minister on the ongoing modernization of the ML-1 and ML-3 railway lines, as well as broader plans to enhance the railway system to meet future logistical demands.
