Caretaker Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Muhammad Sami Saeed, recently visited the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Secretariat following the successful third Belt and Road Forum 2023 in Beijing. During the visit, the minister received a detailed briefing on the progress of projects under CPEC.
Expressing optimism, the minister directed officials to expedite the work on ongoing projects. The meeting, attended by key figures including the Secretary of the Planning Ministry and the CPEC Project Director, focused on areas highlighted in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Forum, such as Research and Innovation, Communication, Science and Technology, Industry, Agriculture, Energy, and Tourism.
Highlighting the transformative impact of CPEC on Pakistan’s economic landscape, Minister Sami Saeed emphasized the importance of exploring new areas, including Agriculture, Science & Technology, and Information Technology. He acknowledged the huge potential in these sectors.
The third BRI Forum, which took place in Beijing from October 17 to 18, featured Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar representing Pakistan. The forum aimed at fostering collaboration in various fields and sectors. The second phase of CPEC is already underway, marking a decade of collaboration between China and Pakistan.
During the meeting, the positive collaboration between the two nations was underscored, particularly in the establishment of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and increased Chinese investment across various sectors. This collaboration has not only promoted industrialization in Pakistan but has also generated job opportunities and enhanced the country’s export capacity.
