Dr. Musadik Malik, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Petroleum, addressed the China (Shaanxi)-Pakistan Conference for Economic and Trade Cooperation on the sidelines of the 8th Silk Road International Expo in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, China. In his opening remarks, he expressed gratitude to both the Government of China and the Shaanxi Provincial Government for their partnership in organizing the conference. He also thanked Shaanxi for inviting Pakistan as the Guest Country of Honor and for facilitating the setup of the Pakistan Pavilion at the expo. Dr. Malik emphasized Xi’an and Shaanxi’s historical significance as the starting point of the ancient Silk Road and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which was launched by President Xi Jinping.
Dr. Malik highlighted that Pakistan’s participation in the expo was a direct follow-up to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s earlier visit to Xi’an. He stressed that the long-standing friendship and strategic partnership between Pakistan and China is built on mutual trust, benefit, and support. The minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening this ironclad relationship with China, particularly in the areas of energy, economy, investment, and trade.
The minister discussed the expanding partnership between Pakistan and China, particularly under the framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which remains central to Pakistan’s growth strategy. He invited Chinese companies, especially from Shaanxi province, to invest in Pakistan’s energy and petroleum sectors. He further emphasized that leading Pakistani firms in upstream, mid-stream, and downstream petroleum sectors are seeking collaboration with Shaanxi companies through investment, joint ventures, and technology transfer.
Dr. Malik highlighted Pakistan’s broader efforts to attract foreign direct investment, particularly in infrastructure and energy production, which are critical for the country’s socioeconomic development. He stressed the need for deeper provincial-level cooperation and the strengthening of business-to-business (B2B) connections across sectors such as mining, energy, petroleum, and technology.
The minister emphasized that the 8th Silk Road International Expo symbolized not just trade and investment but also the spirit of cooperation that defines Pakistan-China relations. He noted that the Belt and Road Initiative, especially its flagship project CPEC, is not limited to infrastructure development but serves as a platform for global peace, prosperity, and development. Dr. Malik reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to fostering shared growth, sustainable development, and lasting friendship through win-win cooperation.
