Experts have highlighted that the inclusion of the Karachi Coastal Comprehensive Development Zone (KCCDZ) project in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will significantly strengthen economic and industrial ties between Pakistan and China.
Covering approximately 930 hectares, with 640 hectares reclaimed, the KCCDZ project aims to create four new berths for the Karachi Port Trust and a modern fishing port equipped with a world-class fisheries export processing zone. With an expected investment of $3.5 billion, the project will also contribute to the improvement of marine habitats for fishermen and the development of 20,000 low-income housing units.
Moazzam Ghurki, President of the Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI), emphasized that the project will enhance the country’s trade potential and attract global investors, thereby boosting confidence in Pakistan’s business environment.
Fang Yulong, Senior Vice President of PCJCCI, described the project as a game-changer for Pakistan, positioning Karachi alongside developed port cities worldwide. He emphasized that the KCCDZ exemplifies the commitment of Pakistan and China to high-quality cooperation for societal improvement.
Hamza Khalid, Vice President of PCJCCI, highlighted the project’s potential to elevate bilateral relations between China and Pakistan, emphasizing their strategic partnership and increasing cooperation across various sectors.
Colonel Ashraf Rana, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Human Resources and Finance of PCJCCI, emphasized the project’s role in promoting Pakistan’s blue economy and exports. He noted the significance of fishing ports and fisheries export processing zones in enhancing maritime trade and fostering industrial cooperation in the blue economy sector.
