PCFH marks milestone with first ever bladder stone surgery using laser technology, aiming to strengthen healthcare under CPEC.
The China-assisted Gwadar Pak-China Friendship Hospital successfully performed its first-ever bladder stone removal surgery using modern laser technology on March 25, marking a milestone in Gwadar’s medical history and strengthening healthcare collaboration under CPEC.
During the “cystolitholapaxy” procedure, surgeons utilized a cystoscope to locate the bladder stones, which were then fragmented into smaller pieces with a laser before being removed. These advanced medical services, along with other healthcare facilities, are provided free of charge to underprivileged residents of Gwadar.
In February, the hospital achieved a major breakthrough by introducing Endourology in its Urology department for the first time. This minimally invasive surgical technique, performed using a camera, represents a significant advancement in modern medical care for patients in Gwadar.
Operated under the Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) and managed by the Indus Hospital and Health Network (IHHN), the hospital offers a comprehensive range of services, including ICU, emergency care, general and specialized medical departments, surgical units, dental care, a labor room, pharmacy, diagnostic laboratories, blood bank, imaging facilities, and 24/7 clinics. Additionally, costly medical tests, treatments, and procedures are provided at no cost daily.
Beyond serving Gwadar, the hospital caters to the entire Balochistan region, bringing advanced healthcare facilities closer to home. Medical professionals and therapists benefit from well-equipped facilities in this state-of-the-art establishment.
Since its inauguration, the hospital has been receiving approximately 1,200 patients daily. It has provided treatment to over 60,000 patients in family medicine and general outpatient departments, managed more than 30,000 pediatric cases, attended to over 18,000 emergency cases, and conducted nearly 16,000 treatments in obstetrics, gynecology, and child health departments. Additionally, at least 1,260 babies have been delivered at the facility. In late January, the transfusion department commenced operations, further expanding medical services. The hospital has significantly improved healthcare in Gwadar, reducing maternal and neonatal mortality rates while increasing immunization coverage.
