The signing ceremony of the Take-over Certificate(TOC-10) for the Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Station Project (NJ project) in Pakistan constructed by China Gezhouba Group of Companies (CGGC) was held in Islamabad, marking the completion of the whole project. Leaders and representatives from Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) and CGGC attended the ceremony.
Located in Kashmir, Pakistan, the NJ project is designed to generate 5.15 billion kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually, accounting for 12 percent of Pakistan’s hydropower generation, which can solve the problem of power shortage for 15% of Pakistan’s population. This project is estimated to generate a fiscal revenue of Rs 45 billion and is known as Pakistan’s Three Gorges project (China’s massive multi-functional water control facility on the Yangtze River, also the world’s largest hydroelectric power project).
NJ project can also continuously provide electricity to Gujranwala, one of the main industrial cities of Pakistan, effectively driving the local industrial development. By the middle of the year 2021, the power generation of the projects had reached 13.3 billion kilowatt-hours.
