Pakistan’s delegation prepares for Beijing Seminar on CPEC as the Planning Minister instructed to focus on tangible outcomes.

The Ministry of Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives held an orientation session on Friday for officials who will participate in the seminar titled “Building an Upgraded Version of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)” in Beijing.

The session, chaired by Planning Minister Professor Ahsan Iqbal, included representatives from various ministries and provincial departments. The minister urged attendees to treat the visit as a strategic mission and focus on achieving tangible outcomes.

Ahsan Iqbal highlighted the importance of the seminar, pointing out that China’s invitation to 27 skilled professionals demonstrates the strong bond between the two nations. The seminar’s goal is to draft a comprehensive roadmap for CPEC Phase II, shifting from infrastructure projects to socio-economic development.

Drawing on China’s developmental success, the minister noted its transformation from a per capita income of $200 in 1980 to lifting over 800 million people out of poverty. He further encouraged the delegation to learn from China’s strategies for achieving rapid economic progress.

The seminar will focus on creating a growth-oriented economic corridor, fostering tech-driven industries, and promoting a knowledge-based economy. It will also address poverty, education, healthcare, energy transitions, sustainable economic practices, and export enhancement through global supply chains.

Additionally, delegates were advised to conduct thorough research, seek input from industry experts, and collaborate effectively with Chinese counterparts. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs provided guidance on diplomatic protocols, emphasizing professionalism and punctuality.

Co-hosted by Pakistan’s Ministry of Planning and China’s National Development & Reform Commission (NDRC), the seminar aligns with Pakistan’s 5Es framework: Economy, Exports, Environment, Energy, and Equity. It builds on the decade-long CPEC partnership, marked last year by the announcement of five thematic corridors by Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng.

Moreover, the newly proposed corridors aim to enhance economic integration, boost innovation, and strengthen regional connectivity, aligning with sustainable development goals. Ahsan Iqbal also expressed confidence that the delegation would return as “Champions of Change,” equipped to implement transformative ideas in Pakistan.
