Three Pakistani athletes are representing the country at the 12th World Games 2025, which officially began today in Chengdu, China. This international multi-sport event, organised by the International World Games Association (IWGA), will run until August 17 and features a diverse lineup of non-Olympic sports.
For the first time, mainland China is hosting the World Games, a major milestone for the event since its inception in 1981. Chengdu, the cultural and technological hub of Sichuan province, is welcoming over 4,000 athletes from 100+ countries competing in 34 sports, 60 disciplines, and 256 events.
Pakistan’s delegation will be competing in various disciplines, with squash, a sport where the country has historically performed well, being one of the key highlights.
Pakistani Consul General in Chengdu, Tanvir A. Bhatti, attended the opening ceremony and praised the event’s organisation and high standards. In a statement to China Economic Net, he expressed pride in Pakistan’s participation and highlighted the importance of this platform in promoting bilateral ties.
“This global event not only showcases sportsmanship but also provides an opportunity to further strengthen Pakistan-China cooperation and youth exchange,” Bhatti noted.
As the competition unfolds, Pakistan’s athletes will aim to make their mark while representing the nation on one of the world’s most vibrant sporting stages.
