Pakistan has jumped to 7th position globally among comparable telecom markets following the IMT spectrum auction on March 10, 2026, improving from 14th place. The auction added 480 MHz of spectrum, raising total IMT spectrum from 274 MHz to nearly 754 MHz, surpassing several regional economies.
Three mobile operators, Jazz, Ufone, and Zong acquired spectrum across multiple bands, strengthening nationwide coverage, enabling high-capacity 5G, fixed wireless access, and faster broadband. Jazz secured 190 MHz, Ufone 180 MHz, and Zong 110 MHz.
The auction generated around USD 507 million in government revenue. Supervised by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority with international consultancy, the process expands digital services, AI, fintech, and e-commerce opportunities. Pakistan’s telecom sector is now well-positioned for nationwide 5G deployment and long-term digital economic growth.
