Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a significant reduction in power tariffs for electric vehicles (EVs), describing it as a positive step toward promoting eco-friendly and emission-free transportation in the country.
“EVs are a crucial solution to combat air pollution and mitigate climate change,” Sharif emphasized during a meeting on EVs held on Wednesday. He noted that scaling up the use of EVs would help reduce air pollution, cut down the fuel import bill, and protect the environment.
Highlighting the economic potential of EVs, the prime minister stated that the government is implementing an electric vehicle policy to support manufacturers in introducing affordable, charge-based vehicles. He added that tax reductions under the policy could slash travel costs to a third of those associated with petrol and diesel vehicles.
Sharif also stressed the importance of attracting investments in the EV sector to address both local and global environmental challenges. He said the promotion of EVs is essential for tackling air pollution and climate change, which are critical issues for the world.
To facilitate EV adoption, the prime minister outlined simplified regulations for establishing charging stations and battery replacement facilities. He assured timely license issuance, adherence to safety protocols, and regular inspections to foster a competitive market and attract direct investment in the EV industry.
