Pakistan pushes for renewable energy plans in WBG meeting, while emphasizing potential strategic cooperation with WBG.
Pakistan is committed to shifting from fossil fuels to renewable and green energy as part of its broader economic reforms, stated Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal during a meeting with a delegation of Executive Directors and Alternate Executive Directors from the World Bank Group (WBG).
The meeting, which took place in Islamabad, focused on Pakistan’s economic transformation and potential strategic cooperation with the WBG.
The minister highlighted the government’s “Uraan Pakistan 5Es National Transformational Plan,” with a particular focus on an export-led growth strategy.
Iqbal emphasized the importance of boosting Pakistan’s exports to $60 billion over the next five years and highlighted the crucial role of public-private partnerships in fostering economic growth.
He also stressed the significant contribution of women to the national economy, noting that steps are being taken to ensure their active participation, as mentioned in the press release.
Furthermore, he urged the international community to explore innovative financial instruments to assist vulnerable countries in tackling climate change, referring to the devastating 2022 floods that heavily affected Pakistan’s poorest regions.
The discussions also touched upon strategic matters regarding WBG’s involvement in Pakistan, signaling ongoing support for the country’s sustainable and inclusive development.
The delegation’s visit aimed to strengthen the collaboration between Pakistan and the WBG, reinforcing efforts toward achieving long-term economic stability.
