Pakistan offers incentives for Chinese Investment in Solar & EVs as Pakistan sees China as a key partner in its energy and transportation sectors.

Pakistan aims to draw Chinese investors with special incentives in the growing solar and electric vehicle (EV) sectors, according to Pakistan’s Trade and Investment Counselor to China, Ghulam Qadir. Speaking at the 4th Beijing International Engineering Procurement Conference & Exposition (EPC Expo) focused on sustainable trade, Qadir emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to fostering green technology collaboration with China.

He outlined a range of incentives for Chinese businesses, such as streamlined licensing processes, tax exemptions, and favorable import policies to reduce startup costs and promote technology transfer in solar and EV fields. These efforts are designed to drive impactful projects and accelerate economic growth through renewable energy advancements.

Qadir further highlighted a consistent 10-year policy framework offering tax exemptions for importing plant and machinery for manufacturing solar panels and related equipment, as well as incentives for local manufacturers. Additional perks include low-interest bank loans and international-standard testing facilities to support local production.

“China is seen as a key partner in reshaping Pakistan’s energy and transportation sectors,” Qadir remarked, stressing that collaborative efforts in solar and EV development will address climate goals and spur mutual economic benefits. Pakistan is also targeting 30% local EV production by 2030 and offers incentives under its comprehensive EV Policy 2020-2025 to reduce reliance on imported fuel.

He also proposed joint ventures, technology transfers, and co-manufacturing projects to lower costs and enhance efficiency in these sectors. As global demand for greener solutions rises, Pakistan intends to tap into Chinese expertise and investment to accelerate its energy transformation.

The 4th Beijing EPC Expo is being held at the Beijing Beiren International Exhibition & Convention Center from November 14-16, 2024.
