Pakistan Maritime Minister highlights China’s success model and reiterated the need for Pakistan to follow the path of policy consistency for progress.
During the Chinese Spring Festival New Year Celebrations organized by China Media Group (CMG), Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, praised China for its impressive economic and social achievements. He recognized China as a development model, underscoring its success in transforming into a global leader in sustainable development.
The Minister commended China for its effective welfare system, which has successfully alleviated economic disparities and improved the living standards of its people. He noted that China’s progress has bridged the gap between rich and poor, making it an exemplary model for the world. The focus on education and technical training has significantly contributed to China’s industrial and technological growth, making it a competitive player on the global stage. He also pointed out the economic challenges that Pakistan faces despite its potential.
Although Pakistan represents a significant portion of global poverty, the government is actively working to enhance living standards and has made strides in curbing inflation. Additionally, the government has set a target of $35 billion in remittances to strengthen the country’s economic stability.
Reflecting on Pakistan’s economic history, the Minister noted that from 1947 to 1990, Pakistan experienced strong economic growth despite limited resources, with its GDP being 50% higher than India’s. However, after 1990, India’s economy grew much faster than Pakistan’s, thanks to consistent policies and economic reforms. The Minister also highlighted his own contributions to Pakistan’s education sector, particularly his role in establishing FAST University’s fifth campus in Chiniot.
The Minister acknowledged the importance of China’s educational model, which prioritizes technical skills and innovation, and emphasized his own learning from China’s approach. He reaffirmed the strong ties between Pakistan and China, noting that China’s consistent support has been pivotal in Pakistan’s infrastructure and economic progress, particularly through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which has enhanced connectivity, trade, and the energy sector.
He also emphasized the strategic advantage of Pakistan’s deep-sea ports, particularly Gwadar, which offers great potential for regional trade. The Minister concluded by advocating for policy consistency, investment in education, and industrial growth to replicate China’s success. He reiterated that China serves as an ideal development model for Pakistan to follow.
