Pakistan, Chinese companies have partnered for EV development to foster sustainable transport solutions.
Shanghai Launch Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. (LAUNCH) and Yousuf Dewan Companies (YDC), a leading electric vehicle assembly company in Pakistan, have formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Beijing.
This agreement marks a major milestone in introducing advanced electric vehicle (EV) technology to Pakistan and fostering sustainable mobility solutions in the region.
During the signing ceremony, Khan Muhammad Wazir, Science Councilor, and Idrees Gigi, Director of Projects at YDC, along with senior officials from LAUNCH, celebrated the official initiation of this promising collaboration.
Both parties expressed gratitude to Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, and Commercial Councilor, Ghulam Qadir, for their valuable support in facilitating this agreement.
According to a press release, this strategic alliance will enable local assembly, distribution, and development of electric vehicles in Pakistan, aiding the country’s shift towards green transportation.
As part of the MoU, LAUNCH and YDC will jointly undertake several initiatives, including developing a National Car for Pakistan using LAUNCH’s advanced design and technology, setting up local assembly operations (CKD) for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) with right-hand drive (RHD) and left-hand drive (LHD) models for both domestic and international markets, forming a technology partnership to focus on EV innovation, battery lifecycle management, and recycling, and exploring a joint venture to scale BEV production in Pakistan.
A representative from LAUNCH highlighted their enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing their commitment to bringing world-class EV technology to Pakistan while strengthening their global presence in the electric vehicle sector.
Similarly, Idrees Gigi of YDC described the collaboration as a game-changer for Pakistan’s EV industry, stating that by localizing production and introducing state-of-the-art electric vehicles, this partnership will accelerate sustainable transportation adoption and contribute to Pakistan’s economic and environmental objectives.
