Pakistan and China have agreed to deepen cooperation between their state broadcasters and jointly counter fake news and disinformation. This consensus was reached during a meeting in Beijing between Pakistan’s Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, and Cao Shumin, Deputy Head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of the National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) of China.
The two leaders stressed the need for a joint narrative against disinformation and emphasized the importance of technical training and institutional cooperation. They viewed their ongoing media partnership as a symbol of mutual trust and the longstanding friendship between the two countries.
Discussions also focused on a proposed agreement between China Central Television (CCTV) and Pakistan Television (PTV) aimed at boosting content exchange and media collaboration. According to the Information Minister, the agreement will cover news, documentaries, training materials, and technical support.
Minister Tarar emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to translating this media partnership into tangible outcomes. He noted that PTV, Radio Pakistan, and APP are playing a key role in communicating China’s development stories, the Belt and Road Initiative, CPEC, and cultural cooperation to Pakistani audiences.
He highlighted that PTV is bridging intellectual and cultural gaps by airing Chinese programs in Urdu, while APP’s China News Service has made significant progress in sharing Pakistan’s narrative with Chinese readers.
Tarar underscored that media institutions in both countries serve as vital links in enhancing mutual understanding and societal harmony. He noted that further collaboration in media and culture can be achieved through strengthened institutional frameworks.
Referring to recent Pakistan-India tensions, the minister mentioned that Pakistani and Chinese youth displayed strong solidarity on social media, which gained wide attention online.
The two sides also discussed exchange visits for digital influencers, acknowledging that such initiatives can revitalize bilateral ties in the digital era. Tarar said influencer and social media collaboration could bring fresh momentum to the relationship.
Cao Shumin reaffirmed that China sees Pakistan as a reliable partner and emphasized the value of sharing media experiences. Both leaders agreed that expanding ties in media, culture, and people-to-people contacts will add new depth to the Pakistan-China friendship and will be further advanced under a joint strategic framework.
