Pakistan, China deepen Air Force and Defense ties as Pakistan’s air chief is on a visit to China.

Pakistan and China have agreed to deepen collaboration between their air forces, with an emphasis on joint drills and advanced tactical training. This development came during a visit to Beijing by Pakistan’s air chief, according to an official statement released on Friday.

The two nations enjoy strong ties in defense, diplomacy, and economics. Their strategic alliance is highlighted by the co-production of the JF-17 Thunder fighter jet, developed jointly by Pakistan Aeronautical Complex and China’s Chengdu Aircraft Corporation. The jet is now part of Pakistan’s air fleet and has also been exported to countries such as Myanmar, Nigeria, and Azerbaijan.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu met with Chinese Defense Minister Admiral Dong Jun, where both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral military and strategic cooperation.

“Both parties agreed to boost Air Force-to-Air Force collaboration, particularly by conducting aerial exercises featuring complex and high-intensity tactical scenarios,” said the ISPR. “This cooperation aims to enhance capabilities across various domains, ensuring both air and ground crews are equipped to tackle modern Air and Space Warfare challenges.”

During his stay, the Pakistani air chief also held discussions with General Chang Dingqiu, Commander of the Chinese Air Force, and Major General Cao Xiaojian, Director General of the Bureau of Military Equipment and Technical Cooperation.

Sidhu’s meetings with Chinese officials also explored avenues for technology sharing and the joint development of sophisticated defense equipment.

He extended an invitation to Chinese defense firms to join Pakistan’s National Aerospace Science & Technology Park, offering attractive incentives for projects in fields such as unmanned aerial systems, electronic warfare, and space technologies.

The air chief’s visit reinforced the broad-based strategic alliance between Pakistan and China, which not only covers defense but also includes major economic collaborations like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
