Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Belarusian counterpart Ivan Kubrakov met in Islamabad. Among the discussions were the vow to boost security ties with agreements on counterterrorism, border security, and employment.
Agreements on Security and Law Enforcement
Pakistan and Belarus on Wednesday finalised an extradition treaty and pledged deeper cooperation in counterterrorism, counter-narcotics, border security, and police training. The understanding came during talks between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Belarusian Ivan Kubrakov in Islamabad.
The two ministers first held a one-on-one meeting, followed by delegation-level talks, where they signed the protocol for implementing the extradition treaty. Both sides also agreed to form a joint working group to oversee cooperation in key security sectors.
Expansion in Police and Training Programs
During discussions, the two sides agreed to launch a police training exchange program and sign a separate memorandum of understanding on counter-narcotics in the near future. Minister Naqvi stressed that such initiatives would not only strengthen security collaboration but also deepen overall bilateral relations.
Kubrakov appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in fighting terrorism and narcotics and invited Naqvi to visit Belarus, saying such exchanges would further promote cooperation.
Employment Opportunities for Pakistanis in Belarus
Naqvi welcomed the recently signed MoU between Belarus and Pakistan’s Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, which will enable thousands of skilled Pakistanis to work in Belarus. He assured that Pakistan would provide the “best manpower after proper screening.”
Meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif
The Belarusian minister also called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding ties with Belarus across multiple sectors, including agriculture and industry. The PM highlighted Pakistan’s strategic role as a trade and transit hub, connecting Central Asia, the Gulf, and global markets.
Kubrakov praised Pakistanis as hardworking and expressed his country’s intent to further expand cooperation in diverse areas.
