Pak experts hope to enhance kiwifruit cooperation with China as they are participating in a training workshop in Cangxi which is famous for its unique red kiwifruit.
Agricultural experts from Pakistan, Egypt, Nepal, and Mongolia are participating in the International Training Workshop on Kiwi Industrial Technology in Cangxi, Sichuan, to learn about Chinese kiwifruit cultivation techniques.
Cangxi, located at the northern edge of the Sichuan Basin and the southern foot of the Daba Mountains, is renowned for its unique red kiwifruit. Unlike typical kiwifruits that are fuzzy and green, Cangxi’s red kiwifruits are smooth, with a red-striped core, and offer a sweet, juicy flavor.
By the end of 2023, Cangxi had developed a 395,000-mu (about 26,333-hectare) kiwifruit planting area spread across 31 villages and towns, generating an annual revenue of 6.31 billion yuan. The kiwifruit industry now contributes 35% of the county’s agricultural output and provides employment to over 200,000 people.
During the workshop, the international experts will gain comprehensive knowledge of red kiwifruit production, including variety breeding, intellectual property protection, field management, logistics, branding, and marketing through lectures, visits, and hands-on practice.
Dr. Muhammad Akhlaq from PMAS-Arid Agriculture University in Rawalpindi expressed his admiration for the red kiwifruit, hoping to bring Cangxi’s technology and products to new regions. Dr. Ruidar Ali Shah from the University of Swabi praised the Cangxi Kiwifruit Research Center’s extensive research and anticipated future innovations.
The workshop, hosted by China’s Ministry of Science and Technology and organized by Sichuan Provincial Academy of Natural Resource Sciences, Cangxi County Government, and Guangyuan Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, will run for two weeks in Cangxi and Chengdu.
