Pak and China sign MoU to enhance textile cooperation to increase productivity and gear towards green initiatives.
China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC) and Pakistan’s Board of Investment (BOI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the 2024 China Textile Conference in Keqiao, Shaoxing. As China’s textile industry navigates a crucial phase of transformation, it is exploring how to leverage “science and technology, fashion, and green initiatives” to develop new productivity and shape the industry’s future.
Speaking at the event, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, emphasized that the MoU represents a significant step in enhancing bilateral trade, advancing technology transfer, and boosting capacity through the development of textile parks in Pakistan. Discussions at the conference centered on key topics such as innovation environments, materials, artificial intelligence, and production processes, with the aim of optimizing and transforming the global textile supply chain.
Ambassador Hashmi noted that this was the first time Pakistan participated as the exclusive foreign attendee at the annual China Textile Conference. Highlighting investment opportunities in Pakistan’s textile and apparel sector, he explained that the Secretary of BOI had signed the MoU with CNTAC’s Vice President, paving the way for cooperation and the establishment of textile parks. He also expressed gratitude to the Shandong Ruyi Group for its support.
Hashmi underscored the importance of the textile industry to Pakistan’s economy, describing it as a backbone of the country’s exports. As the world’s second-largest supplier of cotton cloth and the fifth-largest exporter of cotton, Pakistan combines a strategic location, skilled workforce, and vertically integrated industry, making it an ideal partner for Chinese enterprises.
