Over 300 individuals, including a large number of Nepali nationals, were safely evacuated after flash floods hit Gyirong county in Southwest China’s Xizang autonomous region on Tuesday, local authorities confirmed the following day.
The floods occurred near Gyirong Port along the China-Nepal border at 5:46 a.m., resulting in 11 people reported missing on the Chinese side. Emergency teams in Xizang were quickly deployed, and search and rescue efforts are actively ongoing.
The evacuees include 90 Nepali traders and workers, 46 local villagers, 61 construction laborers, 11 merchants, two tourists, as well as personnel from customs, inspection offices, and the port management committee.
Authorities have ensured that all those relocated are receiving proper shelter and essential supplies, with additional assistance efforts currently in progress.
