Oscar winning Brazilian film premiers in China with the event celebrating artistic exchange and resilience in storytelling.
The Oscar-winning Brazilian film I’m Still Here, which secured the 2025 Best International Feature award, had its Chinese debut in Beijing on Monday evening.
The premiere was graced by Rosangela Lula da Silva, wife of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who is on a state visit to China, along with notable film industry professionals from both Brazil and China.
This political drama recounts the real-life story of Eunice Paiva, whose husband Rubens went missing during Brazil’s dictatorship in the 1970s.
The film portrays Paiva’s journey as she rebuilds her life and family amid political upheaval, showcasing the courage and endurance of an ordinary woman during a turbulent time.
Speaking at the premiere, Rosangela Lula da Silva remarked that with the film’s arrival in China, it has truly achieved global recognition—crossing 17,000 kilometers to share a long-buried chapter of Brazilian history with audiences in over 10,000 cinemas across China.
Chinese actress Yao Chen reflected on her past participation in the film The Cord of Life, which was featured at a 2023 Chinese film festival in São Paulo, and presented the Brazilian First Lady with a vinyl edition of the film’s soundtrack.
Yao Chen also expressed her aspiration for increased artistic collaboration between Brazilian and Chinese filmmakers to foster mutual understanding and jointly explore global narratives through cinema
