GWADAR – Ninth Gwadar Book Fair kicks off celebrating Balochi literature inaugurated by prominent figures.
The 9th Gwadar Book Fair, organized by the Rural Community Development Council (RCDC) Gwadar, commenced on Thursday and will run until February 16.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by notable figures, including Chairman of PPAF Mohammad Tahseen, Deputy Commissioner Gwadar Hamood-ur-Rehman, former MPA Mir Hammal Kalmati, Khuda Bakhsh Hashim, Vice Chancellor Professor Abdul Razzaq, AR Dad, and Nafeesa Rashid. The event was officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
To honor the birthday of the esteemed Balochi poet Ata Shad, a special song based on his poetry was performed.
Addressing the gathering, Vice Chancellor of Gwadar University, Professor Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir, highlighted the significance of the book festival in cultivating a reading habit among the youth and fostering intellectual growth. He stressed that the success of nations is closely linked to their emphasis on books and education.
The first day of the fair featured a range of activities, including a theatrical performance by Khairjan Art Academy addressing local issues.
Dr. Ammar Ali Jan delivered a comprehensive lecture on “The Changing Global System and Balochistan.” Additionally, Mohammad Tahseen and Dr. Ammar discussed the effects of climate change on marginalized communities and the priorities of the state. Another session focused on Ata Shad’s poetry, featuring insights from Munir Momin and AR Dad, moderated by Saba Gulzar.
The fair also hosted the launch of Gulzar Gichki’s book “Zahirook,” with the author, renowned singer Naseeb Mazar, and musician Ustad Baqi sharing their perspectives on the work.
Dr. Fazal Khaliq, acknowledged for his significant contributions to Balochi language and literature, was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award, followed by an in-depth conversation with AR Dad.
A large audience, including students, teachers, and literary enthusiasts, actively participated in the fair. The event will continue for three more days, offering further opportunities for literary discussions and engagement for book lovers.
