The Miss Universe Organization issued a statement refuting claims suggesting that Saudi Arabia would be represented in this year’s pageant.
Addressing the situation on Monday, the organization clarified that no selection process has occurred in Saudi Arabia, dismissing any assertions suggesting otherwise as inaccurate.
The statement came after Saudi model Rumy Alqahtani claimed on social media that she would be representing the kingdom in the prestigious pageant. Alqahtani’s post, featuring images of her holding the Saudi flag and wearing a Miss Universe sash, garnered significant attention, as she would have been the first Saudi woman to compete for the crown.
Miss Universe underscored that the process of selecting contestants from each country adheres to strict criteria and regulations to ensure fairness and transparency.
Additionally, the organization confirmed that Saudi Arabia is not among the 100-plus countries scheduled to participate in this year’s pageant in Mexico.
