The federal government has decided to close markets, shopping malls, and commercial areas at 8 PM in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
The decision, taken in a review meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad, aims to implement energy-saving and austerity measures. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s divisional headquarters, markets will remain open until 9 PM.
General stores, departmental stores, and malls will close at 8 PM, while bakeries, restaurants, tandoors, marriage halls, and marquees will close at 10 PM. Wedding events at private homes after 10 PM are banned. Medical stores and pharmacies are exempt.
The measures will take effect on Tuesday. Consultations on market hours in Sindh are ongoing. The Prime Minister also announced that intra-city public transport in Gilgit and Muzaffarabad will be free for one month, with the federal government covering the costs.
Officials attending the meeting included Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, and other senior leaders.
