On May 20 , Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, met with Dar, leader of the Pakistan Muslim League (Sharif faction) , Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Government, in Beijing.
Liu Jianchao said that China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic partners, and China has always placed Pakistan at the top of its diplomatic priorities. China is willing to work with Pakistan to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, maintain high-level exchanges and strategic communication, deepen high-quality cooperation in areas such as the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, build an “upgraded version” of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, and promote the building of a closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future in the new era. China firmly supports Pakistan in defending its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, combating terrorism, jointly maintaining regional peace and stability, and promoting common development.
Liu Jianchao said that the Communist Party of China and the Muslim League ( Sharia ) maintain long-term friendly relations and are willing to further strengthen exchanges between the two sides, deepen mutual learning of experience in state governance , promote exchanges among think tanks, media, youth, etc., enhance mutual understanding, and continuously consolidate the public opinion basis for China-Pakistan friendship. Dar said that Pakistan-China friendship is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people of the two countries, and the ironclad friendship between the two sides has withstood the test of international changes and is unbreakable. Pakistan thanks the Chinese Party, government and people for their long-term valuable support for Pakistan’s economic and social development, and thanks China for speaking up for Pakistan in international affairs. Pakistan cherishes peace and is committed to promoting economic development, but will resolutely respond to any violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territory. Pakistan fully supports the three major global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping and other major propositions, and will work closely with China to fully promote the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. The PML- N is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the Communist Party of China.
The two sides also exchanged in-depth views on the Pakistan-India conflict. Liu Jianchao said that China welcomes the ceasefire between Pakistan and India and is willing to continue to play a constructive role in maintaining regional peace and stability. Dar thanked China for its mediation efforts to achieve a ceasefire between Pakistan and India and expressed his willingness to maintain close communication with China on this matter.
Sun Haiyan, Deputy Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, and Hashmi, Pakistani Ambassador to China, attended the meeting.
