In Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Chinese Premier Li Qiang called on Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) members to collaborate in advancing Belt and Road initiatives and furthering the development of major economic corridors.
During his speech at the 22nd Meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of SCO Member States, Li emphasized the need for aligning high-quality Belt and Road cooperation with each member state’s development strategies and enhancing the SCO Development Bank.
Li reflected on the SCO’s founding principles, highlighting the organization’s goal of regional decision-making through consultation among regional nations, free from external interference. He urged members to strengthen regional security, resist external interference, enhance mechanisms to address security threats, and combat transnational organized crimes and the “three forces” of terrorism, separatism, and extremism.
The Premier also called for collective efforts to accelerate economic recovery, build secure and efficient transportation networks, promote trade and investment liberalization, and maintain stable industrial supply chains. Additionally, Li encouraged SCO members to foster mutual understanding, deepen cooperation in education, sports, culture, and tourism, and strengthen people-to-people ties.
