Karot Hydropower Project Report 2025 published which underscored the positive impact of FDI in Pakistan.
China Three Gorges South Asia Investment Ltd. has published the Karot Hydropower Project Report 2025, highlighting the successful execution of the Chinese energy initiative under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The report was officially presented during the International Conference on ‘Regional Connectivity & Pakistan: Emerging Opportunities’ in Islamabad, organized by the Pakistan-China Institute.
The document underscores the positive impact of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Pakistan, particularly in the energy sector.
The conference attracted international delegates who praised the role of Chinese enterprises in advancing Pakistan’s economic development.
The report reveals that Chinese companies have contributed over 8,900 megawatts of power generation capacity and the 660 kV HVDC Matiari-Lahore Transmission Line, with an investment exceeding $16 billion.
These initiatives have not only helped mitigate Pakistan’s energy crisis but have also promoted technological advancements, job creation, and economic expansion.
The report further highlights that Chinese companies are actively involved with local communities in Pakistan, ensuring corporate social responsibility (CSR) and supporting sustainable economic and social growth.
Their contributions have played a key role in modernizing Pakistan’s energy infrastructure and establishing a strong foundation for long-term development.
A major focus of the report is the Karot Hydropower Project (HPP), which generates approximately 3,206 GWh of clean, renewable energy annually.
The project significantly reduces carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 35 million tons per year and has successfully implemented an Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP).
Moreover, the initiative has created nearly 5,000 jobs during its construction phase and maintains around 150 permanent jobs in its operational phase, contributing to employment generation, economic stability, and skill development in local communities.
