Iran’s Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) has announced new procedures for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington.
Submitting Transit Requests
According to the authority, ships seeking passage through the strategic waterway during the period covered by the agreement must submit transit requests to the PGSA for approval.
The PGSA stated that its official website and email address are the only authorized channels for processing applications. Vessels must provide valid and accessible contact information when submitting requests. The authority also advised shipowners to file complete transit applications at least 48 hours before reaching the Strait of Hormuz to avoid delays at entry and exit points.
According to the statement, tariffs related to security, safety, and environmental services will not be collected for a period of 60 days. The suspension also applies to associated Iranian insurance charges. During this period, the costs will be covered by the government.
Trump Sets 60-Day Deadline
As the two countries enter a countdown toward a potential permanent agreement, US President Donald Trump said he expects Iran to finalize a deal within a 60-day negotiation window that began on Thursday.
He warned that if no agreement is reached within the deadline, the US would respond firmly.
“We will do things that won’t make them happy,” Trump said at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. “But I don’t think it’s going to get to that.”
Meanwhile, a planned US-Iran signing ceremony in Switzerland, originally scheduled for Friday, has been called off. However, US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi are still expected to travel to Switzerland. According to Axios, citing a US official, the two sides will hold the first round of talks focused on a possible nuclear agreement.
