Iran’s top security official, Ali Akbar Ahmadian, stated on Wednesday that Tehran supports any peace plan, like the proposals by China and Brazil, that both Russia and Ukraine would find acceptable.
Ahmadian made this statement during a meeting of BRICS security chiefs in St. Petersburg, Russia, and urged BRICS to establish a special committee to facilitate peace between Russia and Ukraine.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov, in an interview with RT, also welcomed the peace initiatives by Brazil and China, noting growing support for the plan within the Global South. Ryabkov reiterated Russia’s willingness to resume negotiations and emphasized the importance of political settlements.
On May 23, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Brazilian foreign policy advisor Celso Amorim met and issued a joint statement advocating for dialogue and negotiations as the only viable way to resolve the Ukraine conflict. They proposed an international conference at an appropriate time to involve all sides equitably in discussing peace plans.
