Horgos Port sets record for China-Europe freight trains in 2024 according to custom authorities.
Horgos Port, a key railway hub in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, set a new record in 2024 by handling 8,730 China-Europe freight train trips, a 12.5% increase from the previous year, according to local customs authorities.
The port also managed 12.1 million tonnes of goods last year, marking a 10.9% year-on-year growth and setting another all-time high, local customs reported.
In 2024, Horgos Port facilitated an average of over 22 daily China-Europe freight train trips, transporting a growing range of “Made in China” goods such as daily necessities, mechanical and electrical equipment, and electronic products to markets in Central Asia and Europe.
Zhao Yuanfeng from Horgos Customs noted that streamlined procedures have cut the clearance time for freight trains at the port from 12 hours to 6–8 hours.
To date, over 40,000 freight trains traveling on 85 routes have passed through Horgos Port, making it a vital logistics hub connecting China with Eurasian markets.
