Chinese Vice President Han Zheng attended the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday in Washington, D.C., following an official invitation.

During his visit, Han, serving as a special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping, met with U.S. Vice President-elect J.D. Vance, key U.S. business representatives, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, and John Thornton, Chair Emeritus of the Brookings Institution.

In his meeting with Vance on Sunday, Han conveyed President Xi’s congratulations to Trump and extended his greetings to Vance.

Han noted the significant outcomes of a recent phone call between Xi and Trump, highlighting the leaders’ shared consensus on advancing China-U.S. relations in the future.

He emphasized China’s willingness to work with the U.S. under the strategic guidance of head-of-state diplomacy to promote steady, healthy, and sustainable development in bilateral relations.

Han remarked that both nations are pursuing their respective developmental goals and dreams, and cooperation based on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win collaboration would benefit their progress, global peace, and development.

Addressing economic and trade ties, Han acknowledged existing differences but underlined the shared interests and opportunities for dialogue and cooperation in these areas.

Vance, in return, asked Han to convey Trump’s greetings to Xi and highlighted the constructive nature of his recent phone call with Xi. He stressed the importance of economic and trade relations for both nations and expressed the U.S.’s willingness to strengthen ties with China.

Vance also recognized China’s growing role in global affairs and emphasized the U.S.’s desire for a long-lasting, cooperative relationship with China to promote global peace and stability.

In a meeting with U.S. business representatives, Han stressed that stable China-U.S. relations align with the well-being of both peoples and reflect international expectations.

He acknowledged the U.S. business community’s significant role in fostering China-U.S. economic cooperation and assured that China remains committed to reform, opening-up, and creating a favorable business environment.

Han encouraged U.S. companies to continue investing in China, serve as a bridge for bilateral relations, and contribute to the progress of economic ties.

U.S. business leaders expressed optimism about China’s economic prospects and opportunities, emphasizing the need for constructive, mutually beneficial cooperation between the two nations.

In his discussions with Musk and Thornton, Han invited U.S. companies to actively engage with China’s development opportunities and highlighted the importance of strengthening collaboration across economic, trade, and cultural sectors to foster mutual understanding and friendship.

Musk and Thornton echoed the importance of U.S.-China economic and cultural exchanges and expressed their commitment to promoting bilateral cooperation.
