UNDP will train 5,000 residents in Gwadar through 100 climate-awareness sessions. The program aims to help citizens understand emerging environmental threats. Rising sea levels, urban flooding, coastal erosion, and water scarcity make Gwadar highly vulnerable. Awareness is the first step toward community preparedness. The initiative strengthens local resilience against climate change.
UNDP Project Officer Sana Durani briefed GDA DG Moin-ur-Rehman Khan on the initiative. The discussion highlighted UNDP’s ongoing social and development programs in the city. The climate-awareness plan is a key part of these efforts. It focuses on preventive measures and adaptation strategies. Officials emphasized coordinated action between UNDP and GDA.
DG Moin-ur-Rehman Khan called climate change a serious long-term threat to Gwadar. He stressed integrating climate resilience into urban planning. GDA is already implementing environment-focused projects across the city. Public awareness and sustainable development remain top priorities. The program supports both immediate safety and long-term growth.
Alongside climate sessions, 100 local youth receive technical and vocational training. The Gwadar Institute of Technology runs this skills program. It prepares residents for employment in the city’s expanding development projects. UNDP and GDA continue collaboration on youth empowerment and environmental readiness. These steps aim to secure a sustainable and resilient future for Gwadar.
