The Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) has approved a tender to construct paved platforms for fishermen’s boats in Gwadar. The decision came on September 15 following efforts by Gwadar MPA Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman Baloch.
The approval clears the way for construction work to begin soon. The project aims to address long-standing difficulties faced by local fishermen.
Local Firm Wins Construction Tender
More than six local and national companies participated in the tender process. The process continued for one month after opening on August 15.
Companies had to meet professional and prequalification requirements set by the competent authority. Following the evaluation, HM firm, a local Balochistan-based company, won the tender.
The company met the required standards and protocols for the project.
Improving Facilities for Gwadar Fishermen
The new platforms will provide designated and properly paved spaces for fishermen to place their boats. This development could also help address issues related to boat ownership and placement.
Moreover, improved facilities can support smoother fishing operations and benefit communities that depend on the sector for their livelihoods.
32 Fishermen Receive Green Fiber Boats
Meanwhile, authorities distributed documents for 32 green fiber boats through a balloting process.
Under the scheme, officials selected 20 fishermen from Gwadar city, six from Surbandar, and six from Pishukan as beneficiaries.
The balloting process provided eligible fishermen with an opportunity to receive boats under the fisheries support scheme.
Focus on Fisheries Sector Development
Addressing the gathering, Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman said the initiative reflects Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti’s policy of strengthening the fisheries sector.
He added that the measures aim to improve economic opportunities for people who depend on fishing.
Furthermore, the boat platforms and fiber boat scheme could strengthen support for Gwadar’s fishing community. The initiatives also highlight continued efforts to improve facilities for local fishermen.
