The fourth session of the China–Pakistan Joint Working Group on Agriculture was held in Beijing on April 22. The event was jointly presided over by top officials from China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Pakistan’s Ministry of National Food Security and Research.
Key discussions focused on reviewing the outcomes of the initial agricultural projects launched under the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), approving a second wave of proposed projects, and launching a China–Pakistan Agricultural Technology Working Group. Both parties also agreed to create joint laboratories and to soon sign an MoU on tropical agriculture cooperation. Additional areas of discussion included enhanced collaboration in fisheries, agricultural mechanization, and related sectors.
Around 60 delegates from government agricultural departments, research bodies, local administrations, private enterprises, and embassies from both countries took part in the meeting through virtual and physical attendance.
Backed by the agricultural and diplomatic institutions of both nations, two standout initiatives under the first phase—Sichuan Litong’s chili pepper project and Guangxi Royal Dairy’s buffalo breeding and dairy venture—have shown excellent outcomes. These projects have received strong recognition and are seen as benchmarks of China–Pakistan agricultural cooperation.
Looking forward, four new dynamic partners—Qingfa Hesheng (Wuhan), Jinghua Seed Industry (Xinjiang), Runber (Shandong), and the Crop Science Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences—have joined the next round of agricultural collaborations under CPEC. In post-meeting remarks, company officials shared their enthusiasm for launching more targeted and high-impact projects that will strengthen CPEC’s second phase and enhance the China–Pakistan partnership.
