At least five people, including an assistant commissioner, were killed and 11 others injured in a bomb blast on Wednesday in Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to Bajaur District Police Officer Waqas Rafique, the explosion targeted a government vehicle on Nawagai Road in the Siddiqabad railway area of Khar tehsil. The powerful blast completely destroyed the vehicle and left multiple casualties, including two policemen and a civilian.
The injured were immediately shifted to Khar Hospital. Among the deceased were Nawagai Assistant Commissioner Faisal Ismail, Tehsildar Abdul Wakil, Subedar Noor Hakim, and Constable Rashid. Security has been tightened in the area and rescue efforts are ongoing.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Adviser Ihtisham Ali condemned the attack and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives. He contacted district health authorities and confirmed that an emergency had been declared in Bajaur hospitals, with medical staff placed on alert to ensure immediate treatment for the wounded.
Inspector General of KP Police Zulfiqar Hameed took serious notice of the incident and asked the Malakand RPO for a detailed report. He ordered intensified intelligence-based operations against Fitna Al Khawarij and deployed special teams from the CTD and Special Branch to investigate.
Initial findings suggest that the assistant commissioner’s vehicle was specifically targeted. Bomb disposal squads are at the scene collecting evidence, and authorities have vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
KP government spokesperson Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif also condemned the attack and stated that hostile elements behind such violence will not be allowed to succeed. He said Chief Minister KP has directed an inquiry and instructed for full medical assistance to the injured.
Chief Secretary KP Shahab Ali Shah denounced the attack and ordered the district administration and health department to stay on high alert and utilize all resources to manage the emergency effectively.
