Fast-Track counter for Chinese nationals set up at Islamabad Airport as Islamabad Police and FIA will be performing their duties at the desk to ensure efficient operation and provide needed security measures.
A dedicated fast-track counter has been set up at New Islamabad International Airport (NIIA) to facilitate foreign travelers, particularly Chinese nationals, according to a report.
Islamabad Police personnel, in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), will be stationed at the counter to ensure efficient operations and security measures.
The Islamabad Police team will include one inspector and four other officers. They will be responsible for collecting data on Chinese nationals arriving in Pakistan.
All gathered information will be forwarded to the special unit of ARUI. The federal government decided to establish these desks in response to security threats targeting Chinese nationals in the country.
It is worth noting that Pakistan has assured China of its commitment to ensuring the safety of Chinese personnel involved in infrastructure and development projects. This assurance was reiterated during President Asif Ali Zardari’s visit to Beijing, where discussions on strengthening security and economic cooperation took place.
Currently, thousands of Chinese nationals are working in Pakistan, primarily on projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). However, since 2017, at least 21 Chinese citizens have lost their lives in targeted attacks, affecting bilateral relations and slowing down progress on multi-billion-dollar infrastructure and development initiatives.
