In a conference marking the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiatives (BRI) in Karachi, the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, reiterated China’s commitment to enhancing the well-being of people, boosting aid disbursement, increasing Pakistan’s exports to China, and ensuring year-round operation of the Khunjerab Pass. This commitment underscores China’s persistent dedication to the success of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The conference, presided over by Yang Yundong, Consul General of China in Karachi, highlighted the achievements of CPEC, which has attracted $25.4 billion in direct investment, generated 236,000 jobs, and played a pivotal role in advancing essential infrastructure over the past decade.
Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, sharing insights from the recent Belt and Road Forum in Beijing, outlined President Xi Jinping’s eight significant measures aimed at strengthening high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. This vision includes expediting the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, fostering an inclusive global economy, and supporting impactful livelihood initiatives.
Consul General Yang Yundong reinforced the commitment to build a shared future through BRI, marking a decade of progress and paving the way for more extensive international collaboration. He emphasized the transformative journey of the BRI from a visionary idea to a practical platform for international cooperation.
Regarding CPEC, Yang Yundong highlighted the successful first phase and the ongoing efforts toward an upgraded version, focusing on growth, livelihood, innovation, greenness, and openness.
Brigadier Haris Nawaz, the Interior Minister of the Government of Sindh, emphasized the crucial role of BRI in promoting international cooperation and economic development. He highlighted the significance of the conference as a key platform for discussions and collaborations, aiming to foster regional connectivity, trade, and mutual understanding.
Manzar Naqvi of KEC acknowledged the significant role of CPEC in global infrastructure development, noting its pivotal force in linking China’s western regions to the Arabian Sea through Pakistan. A documentary produced by Ad pulse, screened during the event, provided insights into the achievements of the Belt and Road Initiative over the past decade.
