Dasu Transmission Line Project wins major environmental awards in sustainability and biodiversity highlighting how infrastructure can align with ecological goals.
The Dasu 765kV Transmission Line Project recently gained national acclaim for its significant environmental efforts, securing two major honors, the Sustainability Leadership Award and the Biodiversity Conservation Award, at the Pakistan Environmental Awards & Conference 2025.
Held last week in Islamabad under the theme “Beyond the Plastic Waste,” the conference was organized by the Development Communications Network (DEVCOM-Pakistan). It convened environmental experts, policymakers, activists, and media professionals to explore strategies for curbing plastic pollution and promoting sustainable resource use.
The event highlighted the importance of the 3Rs—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle—and included the Pakistan Environmental Awards to honor organizations and projects making impactful contributions to environmental preservation across multiple sectors.
Built by PowerChina, the Dasu 765kV Transmission Line Project is a vital infrastructure initiative aimed at transmitting power from the Dasu Hydropower Plant in Upper Kohistan to Islamabad. The project includes a 250-kilometer double-circuit transmission line and major grid stations in Mansehra and Islamabad West.
Once operational, the transmission line will be crucial for stabilizing the national power grid and strengthening Pakistan’s energy security. The project’s recognition reflects how large-scale infrastructure can align with environmental sustainability, setting a model for future projects in the country and the region.
