Cultural heritage protection requires a more systematic approach and unified supervision while addressing the pressing challenges as stated by Zhang Guanghan, deputy chief planner at the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design, on Sunday.
Speaking at the third plenary meeting of the third session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Zhang stressed the importance of enhancing high-level planning to improve cultural heritage management.
As a member of the 14th CPPCC National Committee, Zhang recommended strengthening coordination and communication among relevant authorities responsible for safeguarding cultural relics, historic villages, cultural landscapes, and intangible heritage. He also emphasized the need for stronger legislation, clearer regulatory frameworks, and the use of public interest litigation to ensure better enforcement.
Zhang further advocated for greater adoption of technology to enhance real-time monitoring of cultural heritage sites and encouraged broader public involvement in preservation efforts.
