CPEC key to Pakistan’s economic development: PM Shehbaz Sharif expressed during his visit to Quetta.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized on Monday that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) serves as a foundation for regional connectivity and Pakistan’s economic growth, according to a statement from his office.
During his visit to Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, Sharif stated that CPEC’s development is advancing swiftly and remains crucial in shaping Pakistan’s future.
He highlighted the commencement of flight operations at the China-assisted New Gwadar International Airport, which enhances Balochistan’s connectivity with both Pakistan and the global market.
Discussing Gwadar Port’s significance, Sharif said it holds immense potential to transform Balochistan into a major trade hub. He reiterated that the port would serve as a key link between Pakistan and Central and Southeast Asia, as well as the rest of the world.
CPEC, launched in 2013 as a flagship project of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, connects Gwadar Port with Kashgar in China’s Xinjiang region. Initially focused on energy, transportation, and industrial collaboration, its new phase now extends into agriculture, livelihood improvement, and other sectors.
