Chinese led JV secures all four packages of Tranche-III of CAREC through a bidding process.
A Chinese-led joint venture has successfully secured all four packages of Tranche-III of the Central Asian Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Corridor Project through a transparent bidding process, resulting in cost savings of Rs13.24 billion.
The winning consortium is headed by M/s Ningxia Communications Construction (NXCC) in partnership with local firms M/s Rustam Associates and M/s Dynamic Constructors.
Funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), this project focuses on upgrading the N-55 highway, which connects Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Dera Ismail Khan. The expansion will transform the existing two-lane highway into a four-lane carriageway, significantly enhancing connectivity and regional trade.
In alignment with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision, the National Highways Authority (NHA) ensured transparency in the procurement process. After addressing all concerns, the financial bids were reviewed and awarded based on a fair and competitive selection process.
The financial analysis of the bids highlighted that the NXCC-led joint venture offered significantly lower costs compared to competitors. The savings per lot amounted to Rs1.4 billion for Lot-1, Rs2.4 billion for Lot-2, Rs2.3 billion for Lot-3, and Rs7.1 billion for Lot-4, underscoring the efficiency of the current administration in managing infrastructure projects.
Meanwhile, work is already in progress on Tranche-I and Tranche-II of the CAREC Corridor Project. Under Tranche-I, a 66.37 km section between Petaro and Sehawan, being constructed by M/s Xinjiang Beixin Road and Bridge Group, is nearing completion at 98 percent. Additionally, a 43.4 km stretch between Ratodero and Shikarpur, developed by M/s TIEC and Umer Jan, has reached 43 percent completion.
Tranche-II involves four segments, including roads between Shikarpur and Rajanpur, being built by companies such as M/s ZKB and M/s CCECC. The progress on these segments currently ranges between 14 and 23 percent.
