Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met Afghan Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani in Kabul on Wednesday, reaffirming Beijing’s support for Afghanistan’s sovereignty, development, and regional security cooperation.
Wang Yi, also a senior member of the Communist Party of China, emphasised that China has consistently pursued a friendly policy toward Afghanistan, respecting its independence, territorial integrity, and the path chosen by its people. Highlighting security concerns, Wang stressed the need for Afghanistan to take firm steps against the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), a UN-listed terrorist group, and other international terror groups, ensuring stability for bilateral cooperation. He further expressed support for the resumption of joint patrols in the Wakhan Corridor to safeguard peace in border areas.
The Chinese foreign minister also criticised external pressure and the freezing of Afghan assets, reiterating Beijing’s backing for Kabul’s integration into the international community.
